Chemistry Building Refurbishment

A Unified Campus

Chalmers’ decision to relocate all basic education to the Johanneberg campus places significant demands on the development of the campus’ physical environment, not least to meet the educational programmes’ needs for teaching facilities, study areas, and student organization spaces.

On the main entrance floor of the Chemistry Building, extensive measures are being taken to accommodate undergraduate education, creating new environments for both lectures and independent study.

The new teaching facilities on level 4 replace those currently dispersed throughout the building on levels 1, 3, and 10. This contributes to a more cohesive and easy-to-navigate environment, accessible to everyone. In addition, the new lecture halls will serve as a welcome addition, functioning well as examination venues.

On level 1 of the Research Building 2, the student environment is being improved with a new kitchen as well as new student areas for lunch, studying, and social interaction. Adjacent to the new entrance on level 1, new open study spaces and a couple of group rooms are also being created.

On level 1 of the Physics Stairwell Building, new study areas and a kitchenette with microwaves for all students are being added. These spaces expand the current undergraduate areas to meet the needs associated with the relocation from Lindholmen and the goal of creating a unified campus.
