Chalmersfastigheter, in collaboration with the basic education, the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, and the Department of Life Sciences, is carrying out the project “Ombyggnad Kemihuset” – with the aim of creating improved environments for both research and education.
The goal of the project is to create spaces that better support the activities conducted in the building, for example by bringing together departments and basic education more clearly, creating new environments for meetings and collaboration, and improving wayfinding throughout the building. This includes new learning environments for basic education on the entrance floor, a new meeting hub and thesis defense room for the departments, as well as a new entrance including an elevator toward the Vasa area to the north.
Construction began in January 2025, and completion is expected in 2027. Kanozi Arkitekter designed the refurbishment, which covers approximately 12,000 square meters.
Do you have questions about the refurbishment? As a student, you can contact the student union or your section board. As an employee at one of the affected departments, you can contact your department’s coordinator. For general inquiries, you can contact the project manager at Chalmersfastigheter.
Impact during the construction period
Work carried out in the building affects current tenants through noise, vibrations, and limited accessibility. During ongoing work, there are barricades in place to ensure the safety of visitors and staff. It is important that these barriers are respected.
The barricades are arranged so that they do not block evacuation routes. It is important to emphasize that safe evacuation is always possible through the construction areas, and that alternative evacuation routes are also available.
Information about current work being carried out is published continuously under “Current Information.”
