New student environments in the Chemistry Building

In connection with the refurbishment of the Chemistry Building, several new student environments are being established, some of which have already been completed and are in use. These environments include both classrooms and study areas, as well as so-called student union section premises—spaces managed and used by the student union sections themselves.

New classrooms

On the ground floor, adjacent to the foyer, a new traditional classroom has been brought into use. In addition, an Active Learning Classroom has been created, and there are group rooms and study spaces in close connection to these facilities. When the project is completed, yet another classroom will be added within this consolidated environment.

Adjacent to the foyer, existing course laboratories are also being upgraded, both on the ground floor and one floor above. Two new course labs opened for course activities in January 2026, and older existing course labs will be renovated in stages during 2026.

Study environments

In addition to the study environments being created next to the classrooms on the ground floor, new study spaces will be added on Level 1, near a new entrance towards Chabo and the Vasa area. These will be available for use when the project is completed in 2027. Furthermore, new study spaces and group rooms are also being created adjacent to the student union section premises on Level 1, overlooking Gibraltargatan. Work on these study spaces began around the turn of the year 2025–2026 and will continue until the turn of the year 2026–2027. A new catering kitchen for larger student events is also being created here, and as a consequence of this, one of the existing student union section premises will be relocated to a new position overlooking the library.

In addition to the work in the Chemistry Building, the adjacent Fysik Trapphuset will also be transformed. Here, the ground floor will be converted into group rooms, study spaces, and a microwave-kitchen with an adjoining lunchroom, with views towards the Chemistry Courtyard. Work in Fysik Trapphuset is expected to start in summer 2026 and continue throughout 2027.
