The refurbishment of the Chemistry Building is being carried out in stages – different parts of the building are renovated in different phases to minimize the impact on operations. During the winter of 2026, the project is in its most intensive period and work is being carried out in many parts of the building simultaneously.
The following major works are taking place in the Chemistry Building during winter 2026:
Research Building 1
Work is ongoing on Floor 1 creating a new entrance facing the Vasa area, including a new elevator and a new central room for handling hazardous waste.
Work is ongoing on Floor 8 to create new office environments.
Work is ongoing on Floor 10 where a former lecture hall is being converted into a thesis defense room for the departments.
Work is ongoing on floor 5, creating a new shared lunchroom for the Department of Life Sciences.
Local work is being carried out within the divisions.
Course Building
Work is ongoing on Floor 5, creating new teaching laboratories for basic education and a meeting hub for the departments. Parts of the teaching laboratories will be completed during the winter and can soon be brought into use by the basic education.

Work is ongoing on Floor 1 , where student facilities as well as group rooms and study areas for the basic education are being created.
